Disasters & Emergencies

Emergency Preparedness should always be a concern, especially when it comes to an evacuation. If an evacuation is called for, either voluntary or mandatory, you should evacuate. In this day and age there is no reason for hurricane related deaths. Should you stay, please notify family members of your choice as well as the Fire Department. During extreme weather conditions it maybe come difficult to respond during certain weather conditions.

Should you decide to evacuate, please consider taking the following: Deed to house/property, insurance information, birth certificates, passports, keys, photo albums. Back up computer information to CDs. Most importantly, make sure your cars have a full tank of gas and that you have cash on hand. Turn off gas and electric. If need be, board up windows. Write this list down, add items to it you feel are necesary and keep it on file.

Should you decide to stay, have another list on file. In addition to the above, you need to be well stocked on non perishable foods and water. Have a gas or coal BBQ. Have buckets available to store water for bathing. Matches, candles, batteries, radio. In addition to your car, make sure you have gas for your generator. Keep in mind during Hurricane Gloria, Bayport was without power for 1 week.
