Reverend Fred Mech 1928 - 2022

Mech - Frederick, past pastor for the Bayport Fire Department.

"Let us remember" the Reverend Dr. Frederick Mech was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of January 15, 2022, while surrounded by his family. Frederick was born on July 7, 1928, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of John C. And Gertrude Mech. He attended Patterson Park HS and then graduated from Albright College, majoring in Sociology.

Mary Irene Farrell - 1926-2021

It is with Deep Regret we announce the passing of Ladies Auxilary Member, Mary Farrell, mother of Mike Farrell and Aunt to Ex-Chief, Tucker Farrell. 

A lifelong resident of Bayport, Mary graduated from Bayport High School.  She was a longtime, active member at Our Lady of the Snow RC Church in Blue Point where she sang in the choir.  Mary was also a longtime member with the Bayport Fire Department’s Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Mrs. Farrell is survived by her children, Patricia Reilly of Shirley, Michael and his wife Julia of Amherst, NY, Brian and his wife Cathy of Mastic Beach and Jean Sirianni and her husband John of Patchogue, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband Scotty, her son James, and by her grandson, Casey.

Mike Jakob (1970-2021)

Today, the Bayport Fire Department, mourns the loss of former member, Mike Jakob, son in law of Ex-Chief Rup Christensen. Mike was a fun, and kind hearted person. We are immensely grateful to have had him as part of our family for the time we did. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Jakob and Christensen families.

Shirley Christensen March 11, 1927 - March 28, 2021

 
It is with deep regret we announce the passing of 69-year member of the Bayport FD Ladies Auxiliary, Shirley Christensen.
Beloved wife of the late Rupert Sr. Loving mother of Ex-Chief Rupert Jr. (Wendy), Marie (Jim), Ex-Chief Paul (Colleen), Kirk (Velina), and Karla. Cherished grandmother of 12, great-grandmother of 17, and great-great-grandmother of 2. Loving sister of Marilyn, Betsye, Pete (Deb), the late Joan, and the late Susan. Sister-in-law of Olive Lazio.
Private cremation in Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marliere Hospice House, 6801 Rowen Rd., New Port Richie, Florida 34653. There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Jacob Beebe 1945-2021

It is with deep regret we announce that 49-year member, Ex-Captain and Ex-Commissioner, Jake Beebe (Oct. 26, 1945), has answered his last alarm. 

Jacob Beebe, a resident of Bayport for 49 years, passed away on February 4, 2021 at the age of 75. Raised in West Sayville, Jake was a graduate of Sayville High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Seabees during the Vietnam War. He continued his career as a carpenter working for the Long Island Railroad. Jake was also a member of West Sayville Fire Department before joining Bayport Fire Department for a combined 58 years of active service. He loved maintaining his home with many woodworking projects. Jake enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes. He would spend many hours doing crossword puzzles. Most importantly, Jake loved spending time with his family, and traveling with Ellen, his wife of 50 years. They traveled around the world to places like Amsterdam, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Scotland. They also traveled to many states including Hawaii and Alaska and also visited many national parks.

He is survived by his wife Ellen, his children Michelle Conklin, and her husband Tim; Keith, and his wife Eileen; his grandchildren Emily and Katelyn; and his sisters Annette Beebe and Esther Sunderland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jake’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or Sayville Food Pantry, 47 Gillette Ave., Sayville, NY 11782.

FIrematic Services were held on Monday, February 8 at 2000 at Raynor D'Andrea Funeral home in West Sayville.  Jake's final resting place is at the Union Cemetery in Sayville, New York.
