[BAYPORT NY] The Bayport Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Monday evening, August 29, 2017, at 20:20hrs.  The fire was primarily contained to the attic area of the one-story home and was quickly extinguished.

Mutual aid was provided by the Sayville and West Sayville Fire Department with the Holbrook Fire Department standing by at Bayport’s headquarters. EMS services were provided by community ambulance.

A small seaplane crash-landed on a waterfront embankment on Long Island Tuesday morning.

The single-engine, single-passenger aircraft went down just feet from the waters of the Great South Bay off of Bayport shortly before 7 a.m., Suffolk County police say.

In April of this year, a small plane crashed after taking off from the Bayport Aerodrome. Several Bayport Firefighters that lived near the crash site rushed to the scene and pulled both the pilot and passenger from the fiery wreckage and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.

This past Friday (Sept 2. 2016), at the Bayport FD’s regular monthly meeting, Pilot Scott Clifford and passenger Michael Rome attended the meeting and met with the BFD membership to personally thank them. Additionally, New York State Senators Tom Croci and Phil Boyle also attended and presented recognition awards to several firefighters and civilians that were participated in the extrication of the occupants.
