BFD makes rescue in the Great South Bay

Bayport N.Y.: On Monday June 19 at 14:10 hours, the Bayport Fire Department responded to a call for help for at least one person in the water after a small sailboat had capsized. Upon arrival approximately 5 minutes after notification of the call, a twin hull Hobie Cat type sailboat was seen overturned approximately 300 yards Southeast off the entrance to Homan’s Creek.

It takes a special person to fill the boots of a volunteer firefighter. It starts with the desire to help, and the courage to act. It requires dedication, responsibility, hard work and the willingness to learn and accept the challenges of a difficult job. It requires someone who considers respect and appreciation reward enough.

BFD helps the helpers

[Nov 10, 2012 BAYPORT NY for Immediate release]

After almost two weeks of helping the residents of Bayport, the members of The Bayport Fire Department took it one step further to help those who were volunteering in the heavily damged community of Breezy Point, NY.  NFD members arrived early Sat morning at the BFD to prepare and cook food.  Around 11 am members headed over to Breezy Point and served food the volunteers.

Storing Gasoline

If you are storing gasoline.... Gas should be stored in approved gas cans only (5 gallons or less) and should be stored away from open flames, and places where static electricity can ignite vapors. The best place is a shed, away from the house, in metal cabinet properly labeled with flammable markings.
