Train vs Vehicle accident

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: BAYPORT NY

The Bayport Fire Department was called to a train vs motor vehicle incident at the Bayport Avenue RailRoad crossing on Tuesday October 26, at 10:29am.

The vehicle was headed south on Bayport Avenue when it was struck by the westbound train pinning the vehicle and the driver. Firefighters from the Bayport Fire Department worked together with the Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Unit to extracate the victim which took almost 20 minutes. The victim was treated by Community Ambulance EMS personnel and transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition.

Multi-District Open House and Fire Prevention

The Bayport Fire Department will be participating in the first-ever Multi-District Fire Prevention Open House and Food Drive.

The Open House takes place on Sunday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West Sayville Fire Department, located at 80 Main Street, and features fire prevention demonstrations such as CPR, hose handling, and automobile extrication.

Children can take part in the junior firefighter challenge and can learn and interact with fire engines, ambulances, and other equipment.

Participants will also have the opportunity to meet and learn from the local fire departments of Bayport, Blue Point, Bohemia, Holbrook, Sayville, and West Sayville fire departments as well as the Community Ambulance Company. Fire extinguishers and smoke detectors will be handed out to families for free while supplies last.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation. Volunteer membership applications will also be available to anyone interested in joining their Fire or EMS agency.

Mike Jakob (1970-2021)

Today, the Bayport Fire Department, mourns the loss of former member, Mike Jakob, son in law of Ex-Chief Rup Christensen. Mike was a fun, and kind hearted person. We are immensely grateful to have had him as part of our family for the time we did. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Jakob and Christensen families.
