Jacob Beebe 1945-2021

It is with deep regret we announce that 49-year member, Ex-Captain and Ex-Commissioner, Jake Beebe (Oct. 26, 1945), has answered his last alarm.

Jacob Beebe, a resident of Bayport for 49 years, passed away on February 4, 2021 at the age of 75. Raised in West Sayville, Jake was a graduate of Sayville High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Seabees during the Vietnam War. He continued his career as a carpenter working for the Long Island Railroad. Jake was also a member of West Sayville Fire Department before joining Bayport Fire Department for a combined 58 years of active service. He loved maintaining his home with many woodworking projects. Jake enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes. He would spend many hours doing crossword puzzles. Most importantly, Jake loved spending time with his family, and traveling with Ellen, his wife of 50 years. They traveled around the world to places like Amsterdam, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Scotland. They also traveled to many states including Hawaii and Alaska and also visited many national parks.

He is survived by his wife Ellen, his children Michelle Conklin, and her husband Tim; Keith, and his wife Eileen; his grandchildren Emily and Katelyn; and his sisters Annette Beebe and Esther Sunderland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jake’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or Sayville Food Pantry, 47 Gillette Ave., Sayville, NY 11782.

FIrematic Services were held on Monday, February 8 at 2000 at Raynor D'Andrea Funeral home in West Sayville.  Jake's final resting place is at the Union Cemetery in Sayville, New York.

Thank you to First Responders

Thank you First Responders

Lexi Stoff, a soon to be senior at North Shore High School in Glen Head (and aspiring engineer), organized the following

“In response to the pandemic First Responders have been putting their lives on the line to help those in need. Thank a first responder by writing a note of gratitude. Your submission will be distributed to First Responders at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department, Locust Valley Fire Department, Carle Place Fire Department, Sea Cliff Fire Department, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, Sleepy Hollow Police Department, and 35+ more organizations.”

The Bayport Fire Department was lucky enough to have Lexi include us in this wonderful campaign. Below was the follow up email I received, along with thank you notes, which Lexi is still receiving.

Dear Captain Jason Feinberg, I reached out to you on April 14 asking if I could send thank you letters to first responders for you to distribute and I was given this email to send them to. Attached below are 100+ thank you notes from members of my community and there are still more rolling in! Thank you so much for all you are doing!  -Lexi Stoff
