President of Todd Shipyards, at one time, the largest ship building company in the United States. A World War II Liberty Ship, built at his shipyard, was named in his honor. Todd Memorial Square at Columbia and Halleck Streets in Brooklyn is also named for him.William Todd was a fire buff and was a member of several fire-related clubs in New York. After his passing, his daughter endowed a medal of valor in his name for the FDNY.Died as the result of a fractured skull after falling down a flight of fourteen stairs in his home in Brooklyn.
