Edward Charles Herting Jr

Edward C. Herting, Jr., 74, a 45-year resident of Bayport, LI, died suddenly on December 20, 2016. Mr. Herting worked as a firefighter with the FDNY for more than 25 years before retiring as a Lieutenant in 1990. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Bayport Fire Department for more than forty years and taught for more than 30 years at the Suffolk County Fire Academy where he was a Deputy Chief. Ed was also an active member of Our Lady of the Snow RC Church in Blue Point. Mr. Herting is survived by his wife, Carrie, his three children, Edward IV and his wife Donna of Medford, Lauren Somerville and her husband Ed of Bayport and Pete and his wife Christine of Oakdale, as well as his eight grandchildren, Hilary, Sydney, Jenna, Lucas, Eddie, Cayla, Shane and Jake.
