Son of Josiah Smith and Mary Elizabeth Conklin, husband of Carrie Skidmore, the daughter of Theodore Smith Skidmore and Eudora Isabel Marsh, whom he married on October 17, 1896 in Hempstead, NY. Obituary - George E. Smith, aged 91, one of the oldest residents of Bayport, died on Sunday, at his home on Bayport Avenue, after being in poor health for the past five years. He was born in Sayville, a son of Josiah and Mary Conklin Smith, but for more than 55 years he had made his home in Bayport. Mr. Smith was a retired blacksmith. For many years, he was an active member of the Bayport Methodist Church. He was also a member of Court Bayside, Foresters of America, in Sayville, and of the Bayport Fire Department. On October. 17th, Mr. Smith and his wife, Mrs. Carrie Skidmore Smith, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, George C. A. Smith, of Glen Ridge, N. J., two daughters, Mrs. Edwin Bemis, of East Orange, N. J. and Mrs. H. Thompson Straw, of Falls Church, Va. a sister, Mrs. Libby Smith, of Springville, N. Y. and one grandchild. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at Raynor's Chapel, In Sayville, with the Rev. Theodore Bennett, of . the Bayport Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the family slot in Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead.
